Our First MacLaren Society Event
and January's Lottery
Society Event
The inaugural event for the MacLaren Society was a wonderful success! The MacLaren Society is a new initiative to bring the pursuit of knowing truth, creating beauty and practicing goodness – hallmarks of the culture at MacLaren School to the broader Colorado Springs community through the lenses of the humanities, the sciences and the arts. On Saturday evening, over 200 people decided to join us in that pursuit and packed the beautiful main room in the Pinery at the Hill that overlooked the city lights. The crowd was treated to two talks and a musical performance by MacLaren faculty members that highlighted the theme of the night “A Conversation about Conversation.” The room was filled with people who knew a lot about MacLaren and those being introduced to the school for the first time. A good time was had by all, judging from the laughter and smiling faces that could be seen from any vantage point. One parent shared their sentiments in an email after the event:

"I just want to take a minute to thank you and show our gratitude for the amazing event you guys put on, a "conversation about conversation". Being in the company of the amazing teachers, staff and MacLaren community makes us feel truly fortunate that our children get to experience the joy that is MacLaren everyday! We are lucky to have our children in a school that is socially, academically, and mentally nurturing. The best part is our children feel that passion and devotion everyday as well. It is clear to us that sending our children to MacLaren is one of the best decision we have made to benefit their futures. Thank you (and all the staff) for all your hard work and commitment in this outstanding school, we are truly fortunate to be part of the MacLaren community."
The next MacLaren Society event will be a screening of the Oscar-winning film “On the Waterfront” (1954, Marlon Brando) on March 21st at 2pm with a lecture and discussion about the film led by faculty member Mr. Ben Burtzos. If you’re in town, please RSVP today as seating is limited. Email Hannah Caneff at [email protected] with any questions. We hope you can join us!

The parents of MacLaren students are the biggest marketers of the school. They share their stories with their friends, neighbors and co-workers and more and more people in the area are learning about the great school that MacLaren is. This was reflected in our biggest lottery yet that was held on Friday, January 30th. For the first time, we filled both the 6th grade girls and the 6th grade boys classes with extra applicants ending up on a waitlist. As Katherine Brophy, Director of Admissions, called the families who had secured a spot, parents were thrilled and delighted to know that their child would be joining the MacLaren community. There were also thirty students who secured a slot or were placed on a waitlist for the older grades. And the enrollment season is not over yet! We will have our last Information Night in March and we expect Letters of Intent to keep rolling in throughout the spring semester.
